The Power Of Music To Motivate

Do you work in a quiet environment? Unlike several colleagues and friends who listen to music as they work, I’ve always needed a quiet place to work.

Whether at home or in a traditional office space, my preference is to be able to block out noises. I would try to ignore piped-in music, the chatter of co-workers, and other non-necessity noise. When I moved into management, I was rewarded with a private office where I had total control over the volume of and/or noise in general. To be my most productive self, I craved quiet space.

Using Music To Motivate:

Over the past three days, I attended an intensive coaching and leadership symposium. It was held on Zoom with people from all over the country. It was very interactive and I had several “ah-ha” moments.

One of the most unexpected “ah-ha” moments actually occurred during the first break. The facilitator moved us into the break with music and welcomed us back with more music. The lyrics weren’t always clear; however, he chose to sing and/or say the words as the music played. It was so inspirational. It helped jump-start my creative juices. I looked forward to each break ending to return to the zoom room with a renewed energy.

The songs included words such as “Now Is Your Time”. Some of the songs were familiar. Others I had never heard, or at least had never paid attention to.

My Favorite Playlist Of Songs:

Today, as I was going through the 18 pages of notes I took throughout the past three days, I found I was reminded of several lyrics and I plugged into my playlist and listened to some of my favorite songs as well as added new ones that I either had just heard or ones I found with words that were inspiring for my creativity or productivity or both.

As a result, I’ve modified my daily work habits to include playing of motivational music. I’m playing tunes both while I sit at my computer as well as during breaks.

Some of my favorites include:

Dreaming With My Eyes Open (Clay Walker)

Break Free (Ariana Grande)

Come Alive (from The Greatest Showman)
